Rolling Around In Joy

During a break in the weather, and right after breakfast, the tabby I call "Good Mother" decided to roll around and just generally enjoy herself. I'm glad she's happy; she got her name from her selfless devotion to her kittens. She hasn't had any in a long time, since she was spayed, but during her brief time as a mother she gave it her all.

Cats really show a lot of compassion and lovingkindness at times; at least to their own. I wish more people could say the same. This question has been on my mind lately. It seems like every religion/faith lays some sort of claim to compassion and empathy. And these are certainly things the world needs!  Buddhists say it. Christians say it. Muslims say it. The question is, where is it?

High-sounding talk is easy, isn't it? People talk about being compassionate, preachers preach about it, religions teach it. Yes, talk is so easy. But if you have compassion, can you show it to me?  If you say you have compassion but cannot show it to me by your works, then where is this compassion of which you speak?

The Good Mother asks and wonders.....

---
"Compassion is that which makes the heart of the good move at the pain of others. It crushes and destroys the pain of others; thus, it is called compassion. It is called compassion because it shelters and embraces the distressed." - the Buddha (Dhammapada)

"...and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?  So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." James 2:16,17

  2. All of your pictures are just beautiful, Chriss.. You really capture their beauty and they tell us so much. Outside cats have such a hard life but I, too, have seen how compassionate they can be. We could learn a lot from animals. Hope you are feeling much better. Thank you again for taking such wonderful care of them. I know how stressful and overwhelming it can be.
