Throwback to Happier Times

A throwback to Happier times... Two years ago but sometimes feels like forever : a happy Hammie the bobtail cat smiles as he cuddles with me. He was such a sweet boy.

And he isn't the only one we've lost. It's been a rough year but I don't write about these things because there's no point in spreading the pain around. Just this one time, I will - to say that I am grateful for the time we had together. And that is my thanksgiving. This is a remembrance for the kitties who made my life better...

Love your babies. You won't have them forever.

Lucy left us, too. Former feral cats often have multiple health problems and although I try my best, I fail way too much. I feel like I failed them, and I'm sorry.

Spot also left us. He was such a sweet boy, too. His health problems kept him small but he loved his family so much. And I loved him, too.

Katniss has a sister who is still here, and seems healthy, thankfully. Her multiple health issues didn't slower down much. Now she is at peace.

I am thankful for having these cats in my life. They made me happier, made my world better. In another, better world, we would still be together. But I don't make the rules,

Thank you, kitties, for making my life better. I hope I did the same for you, while you were here.

June Cat of the Month Calendar #Wallpaper - Lucy

Well this is different because I decided to use an iPhone photo I took today. Lucy is the Cat of the Month because she's adorable and I hardly ever get to photograph her.


The image above is in HD scale for monitors that are typical 1920x1080 and similar sizes, but you can choose your monitor ratio below (including mobile!) ..

The above image is HD 1080p sized (once you click on it) - or you can choose a more proper size for your system:

Wide/HD 16:9

Wide 16:10

TV 4:3

Mobile Devices

For Desktop and laptop computers:

Use the links above to pick the size ratio that matches your monitor. I know that many people don't know what display size they have on their monitor - it's okay. The first two are wide monitors. If you have a wide monitor and one image doesn't look quite right, try the other one. The third version is for the older analog tv type displays, including flat panel displays that mimic them with that squarish ratio. We still have a few of them.

Some examples of aspect ratios:
Wide/HD/16:9 - 1024×576, 1152×648, 1280×720, 1366x768, 1600×900, 1920×1080, 2560×1440 - HDTV
Wide 16:10 - 1280x800, 1440×900, 1680x1050, 1920×1200 - Macbooks,  iMacs + MS Surface etc
TV 4:3 - 640x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1440x1152 etc. - older monitors and laptops, mostly
The size shown in italics above is the actual image size that I've linked to, but as long as you pick the right ratio it will look GREAT on your monitor using "Stretch" or "Fit to screen" as your option when you set an image as your wallpaper.

Click on the link to the image of your choice to see the full size version, then right-click on it (one-button Macs, use CONTROL-Click).and select "Set as Desktop Background".(Firefox) / "Set As Background" (Explorer) - This also saves the image to your computer. Using Firefox, it will usually look best if you use the options "Stretch" or "Fit" and a black background, like this:

The easy right-click desktop wallpaper method works with Safari, Explorer and Firefox. Many versions of the Chrome browser make it a little harder, plus there is weirdness going on with Windows 10: Right-click and select "Save image as..." Remember where you saved the file. Then go to your image, right-click, , and select "set as background."

Tablets and Phones

Pick the "Mobile" version... tap on the link above. When the image loads, tap and hold on the image until the menu pops up. Select "Save," "Save to camera roll" or "Save to library."  Once you have the image, go to your Settings app, select "Wallpaper" and choose new wallpaper from your photo library. That's it! Set your Cat Of The Month as  your lock lock screen too! :) There's no calendar on the mobile version, by the way. It just doesn't look right in that vertical aspect ratio. Other than that, it's the same.

BFF Cats

Lucy the bobtailed harlequin, Hammie the orange bobtail - brother and sister.... old cats now, but best friends forever.

Hammie and Lucy don't get to spend a lot of time together. Lucy is a mostly indoor cat, while Hammie is an outdoor cat. I rescued both years ago, but I couldn't keep them both inside. So now they visit only irregularly. But they both remember ...even in their old age, they still look to each other for comfort and for a nap buddy. Always friends.

Lucy in the Yard, with Cat Food

Lucy the bobtail cow cat, in the feeding area of the yard...with cat food.... and PEX plumbing pipe, because I've had to do some plumbing work, lately. She doesn't associate with cats all that much, but Lucy decided to go out and see how the poor folk are living.  ...Lucy is a mostly-indoor cat, in case you couldn't tell.

She's been a little antsy... Fleas have been making Lucy kind of crazy. It seems like there isn't much left that's effective: we've been through Revolution and Advantage and all of that. It only sort of works, anymore. I hope they come up with something new and more effective, soon. In the meantime, we just try to cope... like Lucy tries to cope with the fact that there are other cats in the world, and she's not that big a fan of cats.

Harlequin Rustic

Cow cat Lucy found herself a perch on an old wooden chair. The background of knotty and weathered plywood made a perfect background. I thought it was the perfect picture in many ways. Mostly, it's just being in the right place at the right time.

Lucy is one of the lucky ones, as regular readers know. She started out as a sickly feral kitten but is now a pet. You can find the tag "Lucy" below and see her history. Lucy is a happy pet for the most part, although she does have a few peeves and issues. Smart cats tend to be that way.

Portrait of Lucy Cat

Lucy started out her life as a feral kitten and was abandoned by her mom for one reason or another. But that was 2006. This is Lucy today.

I didn't even try to find a home for Lucy, really. She just became my pet instead. I guess in a way I'd like to take care of all the babies I've saved but I can't. Most have gone to homes although I always think of them and worry about them.

Heyyy, I see you with that thing!

I wonder if cats ever get tired of having their pictures taken. In this case, I feel like I'm being scolded or something!

Lucy Former Feral

Just a photo of Lucy, keeping an eye on the world. I had my macro setup on my camera so everything is blurry but her face. She's a sweet girl, at least to me.

Lucy My Cat

This is a Hipstamatic photo of Lucy, my pet ... or more likely, I'm her pet. She was once a feral kitten, only 4 weeks old when her mother abandoned her. She was kind of sickly back then, too - but not anymore.

Once upon a time a four week old feral kitten, sickly with upper respiratory infections and parasites, was left by her mother so nature could take its course. But the feral kitten didn't want to die... she hung on, day after day, getting colder and weaker, yet calling out for rescue. By chance a human found her and took her home, giving her warm kitten milk and medicine. And the rest is history.

Lucy has a mind of her own and a long list of likes and dislikes, but I never wonder how she feels about me. She does her best to never leave my side.

Lucy was abandoned by her mom when she was about 4 weeks old. I heard her cries and saved her. Now she's a permanent part of my life.

The Lucy Cat of Summer

A former feral kitten photo of the day...

 Once a tiny abandoned feral kitten, Lucy has grown up into a beautiful girl. Although she's mostly indoors, she does get out to enjoy the sun every once in a while.

Lucy is a bobtail, like her adopted brother Hammie (who was rescued at the same time). She's bright and inquisitive - almost too much for her own good. 

We love Lucy.

The littermate of Wishe has similar markings - and will be available to view this weekend.
