Download Cat of the Month Wallpaper Photo Calendar

For Windows 10: Download the Cat of the Month anywhere (just remember where you put it!). Go to that folder, right-click the image and select "Save as desktop background..."

For Mac: Save the image of your choice, go to Settings/Desktop,  Screen saver/pick the your kitty as your wallpaper.

Mobile: Save to Camera Roll, Go to Settings, Wallpaper, and select the cat of the month as your wallpaper and lock screen.

Some examples of aspect ratios:
Wide/HD/16:9 - 1024×576, 1152×648, 1280×720, 1366x768, 1600×900, 1920×1080, 2560×1440 - HDTV
Wide 16:10 - 1280x800, 1440×900, 1680x1050, 1920×1200 - Macbooks,  iMacs + MS Surface etc
TV 4:3 - 640x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1440x1152 etc. - older monitors and laptops, mostly
The size shown in italics above is the actual image size that I've linked to, but as long as you pick the right ratio it will look GREAT on your monitor using "Stretch" or "Fit to screen" as your option when you set an image as your wallpaper.

Scruffy Willemina Cat

Willemina always looks pretty scruffy and unkempt. She has one clean leg, though - the only one she remembers to bathe. Willemina is the daughter of Maine Coon, the late Willem DeKooning ...no brain trust himself, his daughter is known around here as The World's Dumbest Cat.

Why does she have that name? Well, she's hard to feed because she's distracted by shiny objects. One has to put the food right under her nose and dart away quick lest she follow whatever is moving at the moment.  Also, when trapping other ferals, you can count on catching Willemina at least three or four times.

She has a good nature, basically speaking. Perhaps that is because she isn't smart enough to be vicious. I can pet her if I'm careful but handling is not recommended.

Wishe's Radar Whiskers

Pocket camera profile view of Wishe the Maine Coon rescue kitten... her whiskers really stick out, entering a room before she does!

Here she's just contemplating life, I guess. I was just doing some low light camera test shots and Wishe ended up being the subject matter.

Desktop Calendar: Our Maine Coon Shy Cat

A Maine Coon that looks so much like the late Willem deKooning that I've taken to calling him Willie The Second - and now he's the free desktop wallpaper calendar for the month of April. I miss Willie and I'm grateful that there is something of him left here with us.

The image above is the wide screen version. We also have a standard "4:3" version:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR FREE WALLPAPER: Click on the image of your choice to see the full size version, then right-click on it (one-button Macs, use CONTROL-Click) - - in most browsers you can set it as your desktop wallpaper from there by selecting "Set as Desktop Background". - This also saves the image to your computer.

Again this month, I didn't do an IPhone/smartphone version because nobody asked for one - but if that is what you are looking for then drop me a note or make a comment below. Actually, if you have any problems or issues at all - or tips/suggestions - just let me know in the comments. There's always something I'm forgetting to mention. :)

In other news... Our own Punk Tom was up for "Toughest Moggie On The Internet" ...today the winners were announced and he got 3rd place.

I didn't mention the contest here. I know you could have helped - but in a way I thought there were more deserving cats. Plus Punk is here and the contest is British so there's that. It would have been cool for Punk to win but third place is fine. I just thought you'd like to know. :)

Wishe Cat in the Woods

The legacy of Willem DeKooning ...the maine coon cat, not the painter; Willie is gone, rest his soul, but the maine coon genes live on. Wishe is a rescue kitty, very fluffy and cute. I wish she could find a home.

She's got some of that feral cat jumpiness but she also loves laps.  So there is still hope for Wishe.

Wishe's Snow Cat Adventure

We don't get a lot of snow in this part of the world - most of the time, anyway: Our winter's consist of FEET of rainfall and huge windstorms. But we do get some,so it was fun to watch Wishe - who seemed eager to explore her natural environment. Of course, I'm assuming that Wishe is at least part Maine Coon but whether she is or she isn't, she seems well-equipped for the weather.

I brought her inside soon enough - but in the meantime she very much enjoyed her outdoor snow adventure....

Wishe's Outdoor Adventure

I just wish I'd gotten her very bushy Maine Coon-like tail into this shot!  Wishe loves to go outdoors during the day. Basically, it's reasonably safe around here during daylight hours. She's in at night.

Wishe is still available for adoption. She is very affectionate but shy around strangers and will hide until she gets used to you. She has been spayed and had her shots, too, by the way. And, she's huge. In this picture she's just barely seven months old! She's bigger than many adult cats, though.... must be those Maine Coon genes.

Feral Maine Coon-ish Cat

A beautiful feral cat, this one has some striking Maine Coon-like features which he probably owes to the late great Willem DeKooning, the Maine Coon of the feral colony. Willie passed away in 2009 and was neutered well before that so this one may be a grandson.

I've been trying to get a picture of this cat for awhile now: It seems to be very shy. This Cooncat has been around 3 years or so and yet I've only gotten a clear view of it maybe half a dozen times!  Oh well, discretion is often the better form of valor as they say.

Not the painter, but the late, great Maine Coon rescued feral cat seen here at the feral cat rescue project. Check out Willem's blog entry and you'll see the resemblance.

This kitty can only be seen from a distance - it's very frightened of people.

Cat Photo of The Day - Willem DeKooning

Photograph of the pride of the feral cat colony, so to speak, a kitty who is at least part Maine Coon whom I named Willem DeKooning.


Get it? Okay, probably not... Regular readers may be aware that I'm a commercial artist. Which means I'm really into art? So, I used to name the feral cats after famous artists wherever I could think of some connection. The human Mr. Willem DeKooning is a famous abstract expressionist painter -- the feral tom is part Maine Coon cat, maybe even purebred. The "coon" part was really the only connection, but it immediately came to mind so I used it. Why anyone would dump a purebred Maine Coon is beyond me! But anyway...

He has friends with names like Basquiat and Frida Khalo, too. So there. Basquiat is big and mostly black tom while Frida has been sickly most of her life. You'd have to know something about artists to get the connection I guess.

Willem DeKooning is a middle-aged cat at this point. He used to get into a lot of fights but I finally got him to the vet about 8 or 10 months ago and now he mostly lays around looking stupid. He's basically a sweet little guy, though.

Wait... did I say little? This cat is huge, I wouldn't want to guess what he weighs. Before his surgery he was king of the colony. Other cats are still afraid of him even though he doesn't pick fights anymore.

His only big problem is that he's allergic to fleas and while he's friendly enough to pet he's not friendly enough to medicate so he gets a lot of sores, poor guy. Other than that, life is good for Willem - and that is saying a lot for a cat without a home of his own.

UPDATE: I am sorry to report that this lovable giant passed away on July 29th, 2009, after a long fight against Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia. We fought it with medication, but we lost. The last night, when it was clear that the meds weren't working and Willie could no longer hold his head up, I stopped shoving pills down his throat and let him lie peacefully in bed next to me. He passed away in the night.
I hope there is a cat heaven for you, Willie. You always just wanted to be loved. We tried.
