Fall Tabby Cat

gray tabby cat relaxing in the fall
As the sun gets lower toward the horizon in its annual arc, this half tail tabby relaxes on an increasingly-rare dry fall afternoon. We get a lot of rain here - most seasons - so he should probably enjoy it while he can.

Speaking of pretty cats, did you notice that the Feral Life 2017 calendar is here? Nicely enough, this year the beautiful cats calendar is available in a more compact size (as an option). Sometimes you just don't need a giant calendar so now there is a size available for tighter spaces. Be sure to check it  out! ...And consider getting some calendars as gifts; proceeds help feed and care for the troupe here, and they will definitely appreciate it.

Old Calico-Tabby in Quiet Contemplation

old tabby-calico cat in quiet contemplation
It's been a long road - getting from there to here .. a long time, yet we are here. A senior member of the feral cat colony, this old Calico-Tabby sits in quiet contemplation. She has seen many things. She has had many adventures. For a feral cat, it's been a good life.

How often do we remember to appreciate what we have? How long has it been since we experienced a moment of quiet awareness? Take Calico-Tabby's advice, and be here with this moment. Be glad to be alive.

Cat Lick Yum

Feral Tabby Cat Lick Yum
Relishing the taste after lunch, or preparing to bathe, whichever it was, this tabby cat was kind of oblivious to my presence - at least for the moment. This is a very pretty feral tabby, don't you think? He's definitely a happy cat, and that's what we like to see. :)

After a brief hint at summer-like weather we seem to have drifted back to something like fall. It makes it difficult to get anything done outdoors including pictures but we'll keep hoping for better weather.  In this part of the world, summers have been almost nonexistent lately, which is sad. But at least there are fewer rainy days at this time of year.

The kitties are doing well at the moment. I'm happy for that. I worry about coyotes at this time of year but I don't know what I can do about them. I try to keep the immediate yard area well-lit, and I don't really have another idea about what to do.  I'm looking for workable ideas/suggestions on how to keep the coyotes away from here.

I'll also need to figure out something in the way of a replacement for the cat trailer that burned. I also need to get the big burned one hauled away. I have all summer to figure it out but I'm hoping to find a small camp trailer free or cheap, as a substitute shelter. The one we lost worked really well for 10 years.

Oh, and last but not least, I definitely need a tree-faller for the big spruce tree that got burned in the fire. It has to be someone with a lot of expertise, so they don't land on something critical.

So those are the updates I can think of, for now!

Mojo 2 Contemplates Life

Tuxedo tabby half-tail feral cat, Mojo 2
Enjoying a little partly-cloudy sun, cat-watching, and generally taking it easy after breakfast, Mojo 2 contemplates life.

Mostly, life is very difficult for feral cats. But ours do much better than that. They live like kings, compared to the average street cat. We're all glad for that.

I'm sure Mojo appreciates his life; there is food twice a day and plenty of places to hide out when needed (although there is one less than there used to be, as you know). I don't know what more a feral cat could ask for, really.

Sometimes I think Mojo wonders about things like this, too.

Scruffy Orange Cat in Thought

I think this one was just wandering away from one of the feeding areas - he stopped to look back, as if contemplating the situation.

Looking scruffy and maybe a little thin, this feral cat is nevertheless reasonably well cared for, I think. At least they are all fed. This one is probably middle aged, maybe 7 or so. That's pretty old for a feral cat.  I hope it is enjoying its life.

Perhaps Scruffy Orange pauses on a rare occasion like this, to wonder if perhaps there isn't more to life. I think we all have those moments. For Scruffy it would have been better to be a pet. But things are what they are, as Scruffy no doubt concluded - turning away again to wander off toward shelter to take a nap.
