Siamese Feral Cat

One of our Siamese-ish feral cats. The ones in the colony all come from a Siamese cat that a neighbor had many years ago, which she never got fixed. We ended up with some of them... This one doesn't really have a name but it's cute, I think, anyway.

Frankie The Siamese

Frankie was named after Frank Sinatra. It's kind of an old-people reference, I know: Sinatra's was called "Old Blue Eyes." And that's our Frankie. He has an interesting expression in this photo; kind of skeptical, kind of curious, ready to run if I'm up to no good. But as it turned out, all that happened was that Frankie got his photo taken - then we both moved on to other things.

Resting Siamese Feral

Resting but I think peeking a little just to make sure I'm not getting too close; this feral Siamese-ish kitty is taking a little after-dinner nap. Sort of.

Siamese Faced Feral Cat

Just a pocket camera photo of the feral colonies' one and only classic Siamese. I love her because she really stands out among a mix of orange, tabbies, black and white tuxedo cats, and a few Siamese-ish white cats; none of home have the classic dark mask. She has a near black socks and tail, too. Very pretty.

Every once in a while I take a stab at taming her. I've tamed adult ferals before, as you know, but it's a slow process and depends a lot on the cat. This girl is rather timid, so who knows?

Feral Siamese

One of a few Siamese-ish cats in the feral colonies, this boy doesn't really have a name - although he probably should!

Mostly shy and only seen in the periphery of the main group of cats, this kitty largely shares the cautious attitude of the two or three other Siamese kitties within the colony. That means that they don't get photographed very often.

We had quite  a cold snap there for a while, and the kitties did not like it at all. They all survived, though. It was just unpleasant. Now we're going back into our usual winter pattern of rain, rain and more rain.

R.I.P. Moonpie

Poor little Moonpie. Such a sweet little feral kitten who was captured and became a pet. In his short time with us, he came to love people. His tail quivered with excitement whenever we approached him. You couldn't ask for a sweeter kitten.

Summer Kitten Wrestling

It's Sheldon versus Moonpie for the Siamese Kitten Wrestling championship... or something like that. They make it look deadly serious, don't they? There is much energy to be expended in this bout, that's for sure!

Kitten Party: Sheldon and Mini-Sheldon

Sheldon, the former feral kitten who is now available for adoption (bottom) meets Mini-Sheldon, a feral kitten who might be captured and tamed. They're both sole-survivors of their respective litters, so they have both probably been longing for another kitten to play with. And this is their opportunity. Let the games begin!

"Finally, somebody like me!" ....Mini Sheldon leaps over Sheldon and a chase ensues.

Kittens love to play games, and I've done my best to keep Sheldon entertained. But there is no substitute for another kitten, really. There is so much stalking to do, and play fighting....

Everyone had a good time!  It's too bad it had to end. The thing is, I don't know if I can handle another kitten. It's hard enough to find homes as it is. But for a short time, two kittens got to have pretend litter-mates, and that was a good thing I guess.

Sheldon Sleeps

Sheldon is a bright, active and adoptable former feral kitten. He loves people and he loves to play. Right now, though, he needs his nap.

This little kitten is a lucky one - the only survivor of his litter - and he was scooped up an tamed, becoming the perfect little pet. I hope he has a home of his own, someday.

Adoptable Sheldon

Cute and adorable, Sheldon is maybe 9 weeks old or so, I'm not sure. He's a rescued former feral and the sole survivor of his litter. He's not as talkative as many Siamese-ish kitties are, but he certainly purrs a lot! And loudly: You can hear Sheldon purr from the next room.

I'm pretty picky about kitties getting safe homes, but if you think you measure up, message me - Sheldon is adoptable.

Rescue Siamese Kitten Sheldon

With a pretty Siamese-ish look and a people-loving personality, our latest rescue kitten is sure to get a home, right? We've tentatively named him Sheldon. Just because.

This kitty is very playful and active. I wish he had a playmate. Kind of... that would mean that I had yet another kitten to find a home for, so that's not really a good thing. Fortunately he seems perfectly happy to chase a toy or wrestle with fingers.

Sleeping Siamese

A moment before I snapped this photo, his head was down on the ground so that is why he has dirt crumbs all over the back of his head and neck. Just taking a nap in an open cage space. I want the ferals to feel comfortable with potential confinement. A trap or cage that becomes too old or rusty just gets modified into sleeping quarters. That way, there's never anything to worry about.

Siamese Cat in Black and White

I had some black and white film I needed to use up, and this beautiful Siamese-type feral kitty just happened to be there. It's a great pose! This cat has very strong markings and a medium length coat. You might even call it long-hair, I don't know; some of that is just winter coat, I think.

Such a pretty kitty. If only it were tame. But, that's life I guess. There are a million pretty kitties out there without homes. It's sad so I try not to think about it.

Siamese

This feral kitten looks so much like a traditional Siamese cat. It's a beautiful kitty and I feel so sorry for it because the feral life is often difficult and short, even when you have a caretaker.

I've captured a few young ones lately and I could possibly catch this one, too. But I don't think I have it in me: The vet bills from the previous three captures have wiped me out, for one thing - and even after all of this I never know if they're going to have homes are just end up back in the feral colony. That's sad.

In fact, there's a lot of this rescue work that is just sad. We've lost a blog star to coyotes recently - but I can't talk about it. It's just too hard for me. There are always losses.  And with this one, I've officially reached my breaking point. ...I do what I can and it's never enough. When they get captured and tamed but nobody adopts them so they end up back with the ferals - it's the worst.

I can't keep doing that; it's killing me. This baby is adorable but I would try to capture only if there was someone else who could foster and cover the vet bills and guarantee a home. Otherwise, the emotional pain is just too much.Then again, it might not even be alive, tomorrow.

That's just the way life is....

Oh, Fran

Looking like she has things on her mind - and maybe like things aren't going the way she wishes at the moment, it's Fran the Former Feral and Siamese-ish rescue.

Fran has accepted her life here and gets some regular petting and special food. It's not quite the same as having a home just for her, but it's not terrible. I always remind people: Adopt when you can. If you can't, maybe you can provide moral support for those who care for mixed cat colonies. And there are many, not just me!

Anyway, Fran has been seen on this blog a LOT, from tiny feral kitten, to rescue, to adoption attempts and right through to today. She's even been a cat rescuer, herself! We've seen her here enough that she even has her own Tag or "Label" (although I don't always remember to use it). She's a star, here, and if she put some effort into it she could probably write this blog herself!  We love Fran.

Just Fran, Getting Some Sun

It's just Fran, our Siamese-ish friend, getting a little sun. As I've often mentioned, Fran is NOT a feral cat, she's our friend; she was rescued as a tiny kitten who was very sick. Nobody adopted her though, so she got used to living here with us. She's a great cat, and very smart. We love Fran.

It looks like Fran has a bit of a cold in her right eye. She seems okay, though, and various infections happen a lot with a big group of feral cats. Also, Fran has always had one eye that was a little off, ever since she was a kitten. Poor thing, she was so sick back then. It took  a lot to bring her around.

I credit her own intelligence: When she was desperately ill as a feral kitten, she decided to seek human help (me). That was what saved her. Good job, Fran!

Fran Not Feral Cat

Fran is one of those cats that were rescued a few years ago when they were very sick kittens. Mort is another one from that time who survived.  We can't call her a feral cat! Back then, they were both quite adoptable but nobody claimed them. I'm not really sure how adoptable Fran is, at this point, but she's used to living among the ferals now so I guess it doesn't matter that much. I just wish she had found a home when she was little.

Fran, as a kitten, kind of self-rescued; when she was severely ill she sought out a person (me) to save her. It took a lot of antibiotics and some kitten milk, but Fran made it. We became very close as a result and while she isn't quite the pet that she used to be she still comes running to me when she sees me.

Back further in the blog, you can see Fran as a deathly-ill kitten, and what we were able to do for her. It isn't just me, though; the people who help cover the expenses of saving Fran and the others are the ones who really make it possible. I just sort of do the field work involved.

Blue Eyes Feral Cat

From my Instagram photo stream, this feral cat, with its beautiful blue eyes, is looking for a handout. I oblige.

I often think that there are so many kitties like this, that COULD have been wonderful pets ... that could have graced a sofa ... could have given and received love. If only there were enough loving homes to go around.

Alas, the world doesn't have enough love for kitty. It makes me sad.
