Coppertop Cat Random

Orange Ginger cat photographed with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge mobile photography
Well this week we've had one dry day. One. So I snapped a couple of photos of whatever cat would stand still. In this case, it's the venerable Coppertop, the friendly feral.

I wanted to see what kind of results I might get using my new cameraphone, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It's waterproof, and I needed that. I can't really afford this stuff but it's on contract so....

Anyway, Coppertop came out looking great, I think. And below, she has a momentary issue with Hammie... except not really. He just startled her.

Let me know what you think of these photos!

Interrupted Dirt Bath

Coppertop, the orange-ginger ultra-friendly feral, was taking a nice dirt bath. But then she saw me and sat up. The only evidence remaining: the twigs and miscellaneous grubby stuff on her back.

Two Feral Cats

Two cats, and while I titled this two feral cats, the orange tom is actually tame. He was abandoned by someone and he just happened to find his way here to the feral colony. He's very sweet and friendly, and would love to be a pet. Sadly for him, I can't handle any more pets. If someone were looking for an orange tom, though, he'd be great.

Coppertop at Rest

The venerable fearless feral Coppertop enjoys a nap in the grass... this was  few days ago in between rain storms. Right now, nobody wants to be out there. But a few days ago, one could still enjoy a nice nap outdoors without getting drenched.

Hammie Cat Sleeps

Hammie orange bobtail tom cat sleeps
At rest, Hammie the Bobtail cat is taking a little catnap in the sun. I tried my best to avoid disturbing him. Hammie is cautious, a bit timid, but still friendly. He will climb on my lap if I sit outside on a sunny day. And sometimes, he tries to nurse. Because he's a baby at heart.

Coppertop on Top of the World

From a high perch, Coppertop - a senior member of the colony - keeps an eye on the comings and goings of other kitties... and me. Coppertop is the friendly feral. She loves to be petted, as long as I don't make any sudden moves. And in warm weather, if I sit outside for awhile, she will climb in my lap and purr.

Orange Observation

orange/ginger cat

One of the many orange/ginger cats in the feral colony. During a non-rainy day, it's nice to relax in the grass and just sort of keep an eye on things. A kitty likes to know what's going on, you know? Being near the barn and area light, this is a relatively safe location even at night. But with a little sun, it's an even better place to rest and watch the comings and goings of domestic animals, people and the other cats.

If you watch long enough, though, it becomes somewhat exhausting. There's only so much observing that a kitty can do! But we try....

In the end, though, one must rest. Next to having food, naps are one of the best things ever - don't you think?

Asleep Coppertop Cat

A little sun and a nice warm car roof are all you really need...  The ginger-orange barn kitty called Coppertop, takes a comfy nap, her contentedness reflected in her pose.

Coppertop is a friendly kitty, almost pet-like. If I sit outside, she will hop in my lap (if another cat hasn't taken that spot, first). She just doesn't worry about too much - a lesson in equanimity for all of us. The closest she ever came to going to pieces is when her sister Gadget was lost in a trailer fire a few years ago. But she recovered and is now enjoying her life again.

Rest well, Coppertop. These are the times of our lives.

Fluffy Orange's Post Dinner Nap

After a good meal, it's time for a nap for the Fluffy Orange tuxedo. He looks a little frazzled, but then feral cats often look that way. They don't get the luxuries of pets but I think they still have some pleasures in their lives. Right now, Fluffy Orange is full and just wants a little break. Maybe he'll clean-up later.

Orange Half-Tail Cat on the Move!

We have regular tails, bobtails, and a few half-tails. This orange guy has a half-tail and he's sprinting in my general direction. I guess it must be feeding time! Maybe.... we're going to try hard to avoid missing out on anything.

And we're slowing down a little bit p taking a moment to see what's going on in the area. Enthusiasm is  a good thing, but being a feral cat, we must always exercise due caution. That whole camera thing is a bit disturbing, so we have to keep an eye on that.

Yep, it must be feeding time....

Such a cute kitty with an orange half-tail. Life is full of things in which to be interested. Bugs, grass, birds, other cats .... but food is definitely at the top of our list!

July Desktop Wallpaper Cat : Sleeping Orange

Here we are at summertime, and it's also a perfect time for a nap - so this sleeping orange feral kitty is our Desktop Cat Of The Month! Such a cute face....

Wide/HD 16:9 Wide 16:10 Older 4:3

Use the links above to pick the size ratio that matches your monitor. Now, I know that many people don't know what display size they have on their monitor - it's okay. The first two are wide monitors. If you have a wide monitor and one image doesn't look quite right, try the other one. The third version is for the older analog tv type displays. We still have a few of them.

Some examples of aspect ratios:
Wide/HD/16:9 - 1024×576, 1152×648, 1280×720, 1366x768, 1600×900, 1920×1080, 2560×1440
Wide 16:10 - 1280x800, 1440×900, 1680x1050, 1920×1200
Old TV 4:3 - 640x480, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1440x1152 etc.
The size shown in italics above is the actual image size that I've linked to, but as long as you pick the right ratio it will look GREAT on your monitor using "Stretch" or "Fit to screen" as your option when you set an image as your wallpaper.

SIMPLE WALLPAPER HOW-TO: Click on the link to the image of your choice to see the full size version, then right-click on it (one-button Macs, use CONTROL-Click).and select "Set as Desktop Background".(Firefox) / "Set As Background" (Explorer) - This also saves the image to your computer. Using Firefox, it will usually look best if you use the options "Stretch" and a black background, like this:

The easy right-click desktop wallpaper method works with Safari, Explorer and Firefox. Many versions of the Chrome browser make it a little harder: Right-click and select "Save image as..." Remember where you saved the file. Then go to your desktop, right-click, select the "Desktop" tab, click "Browse" and navigate to the place where you saved this file. Select the file and click OK.

Hammie The Bobtail

Yes, we do see Hammie the Bobtail quite a bit, I guess. He's very interesting, to me, because he looks more like a wild bobcat than something more domestic. He's part of the family, though. Hammie is both adorable and shy. Somewhere back in the blog, you can even find his baby pictures.

I definitely need to get out and take more pictures.

Our Fluffy Orange Half-Tail Boy Again

It's Fluffy Orange Half-Tail again, getting a little bit of rest and sun. Once again, it's just a pocket camera photo - and even that camera has been acting-up, lately. Ah, well.... So anyway, Fluffy Orange looks a little frazzled because all the grass and brush is wet from recent rains. That's probably part of why he wants to dry-off in the sun.

Orange Guy Cat

I took this photo with my little pocket camera; "Orange Guy" is the one and only son of Dora The Explorer cat. He's always had eye problems; it's pretty common among ferals to have one form or another of feline herpes affecting their eyes. Back when I could catch him, he used to get regular treatments that he hated. But they didn't help much. He seems active and otherwise happy, though, so like the rest of us I'd say he's learned to work with what nature has given him.

Fluffy Orange

Our super-Fluffy Orange tux rests his head on a step. He's trying to keep an eye on  me and take a nap at the same time!

I know, I haven't posted in a while. I guess I've just bee preoccupied. For at least part of this time, the weather has been too crappy for photographs, but it's been okay lately - so I don't really have an excuse. The kitties are doing fine, though - everyone survived the storminess, and I will probably be doing some trapping, soon.

Nansen

Nan-ch'üan - Nansen, an orange bobtail tabby feral cat
Nan-ch'üan, which for the sake of avoiding confusion, we will pronounce as Nansen, is an orange reticulated bobtail tabby cat that has been a regular of our feral colonies for a long time. He is seldom-photographed, though, and never close-up. Mostly, he's just here for the food.

We have a few bobtails within the feral cat collection, and no two are quite the same. Nansen, for instance, has a little tail that twists back on itself, like it's tied-up. Others have different arrangements. Anyway, I think he's kind of cute.

If I don't see you between now and then, I want to wish all our feral family friends merry Christmas and happy holidays. Hope everyone stays safe and warm!

TV Cat

Really, it is just a name. My daughter called him TV Cat because his coat made him look like a cat who should be in tv commercials. He's really very shy, though - and of course, feral.

How shy is TV Cat? Well, he never comes to feedings while I'm there. He's not the only one like that, but most of the feral cats come right up to  me when I have food. TV Cat is one of the ones that will watch from afar until I'm gone. That's why I have to remember to leave before all the food is gone.

Friendly Feral Cat

Eyes of a friend: Coppertop has always been relatively fearless, and interested in people. She's a very sweet kitty and I can always count on her being there to greet me.

Coppertop is getting older, for sure. I don't how old she is because I haven't been good at keeping track... 10? 11?  That makes her a senior citizen, for sure. Not terribly old for a pet, but that's an amazing achievement for a feral cat. And she's fat and happy, and has had a pretty good life. The lone tragedy being the loss of her twin sister Gadget in the infamous cat trailer fire, last year.  Other than that, she's been great!

Fluffy Orange Tux in the Woods

He is a very shy boy, for one reason or another: The grandson of Sick Boy prefers caution and stealth, although we see him sometimes at feedings, he's more likely to be found under deep cover.  We just call him Fluffy Orange.

I wish he would stay closer-in. We lost his grandfather and his father to coyotes, so there is good reason to worry about him. But for Fluffy Orange, woods and brush are his friends. And there is nothing I can do except hope for the best. He's a cute little (big) guy.

The Lion Sleeps

Well, I noticed that the orange cats haven't been getting the attention they deserve, so I thought I'd post this picture of one our little lions taking a cat nap. We have many orange cats in the feral colony but I feel like they've been underrepresented lately.

This comes and goes; at some point I will be posting too many orange kitties, in all probability. It's just a matter of who will hold still for a picture, mostly. I've been told by a vet and have read somewhere that cats that are all-orange are usually males. I don't know if that's true; we've had several female orangeeness.
