Peanut the Tabby Cat

Peanut investigates the roof, and peers down at the world. She will be in our 2018 calendar if I decide to publish it. I don't know because page views are down quite a bit so I expect there won't be much in the way of sales. At least, not enough to justify the work involved. But here she is....

Small tabby exploring

Little tabby standing tall.. until she notices me and my camera. One of the rare breaks in the bad weather, these days.

Resting Tabby Cat

This feral tabby cat has found himself a nice patch of soft dead grass for a bed - a comforting place for a nap on this rare (at this time of year) dry day.

Fall Tabby Cat

gray tabby cat relaxing in the fall
As the sun gets lower toward the horizon in its annual arc, this half tail tabby relaxes on an increasingly-rare dry fall afternoon. We get a lot of rain here - most seasons - so he should probably enjoy it while he can.

Speaking of pretty cats, did you notice that the Feral Life 2017 calendar is here? Nicely enough, this year the beautiful cats calendar is available in a more compact size (as an option). Sometimes you just don't need a giant calendar so now there is a size available for tighter spaces. Be sure to check it  out! ...And consider getting some calendars as gifts; proceeds help feed and care for the troupe here, and they will definitely appreciate it.

Lil Gray Tabby Cat

Our Lil Gray the silver tabby cat has been around for awhile but I'm not sure whether it has appeared in the blog or not. Anyway, it held still and since it has been very overcast here (even though it was supposed to be sunny today) I figured I'd better take the chance while I had one. An adorable face, really.

...Oh I forgot mention, we had an adoption today. Orange Guy went to a new happy home. Hurrah. :)

Tabby Tux, Fat Happy

Looking fat and happy in the grass, this feral tabby tuxedo tom is napping in the grass. He's only mildly disturbed by my presence. Later, he will be joined for dinner by all his cat friends.... and a possum.

Shy Tabby Tomcat

tabby tom cat shy
Seemingly embarrassed to have his photo taken, this shy tabby tom cat shows up for meals and not much else. He is pretty quiet and avoids attention in general. He'd rather you not notice him, I think. But this time we noticed. Sorry about that.

Disappointed Cat

Disappointed Tabby Cat
He was really hoping for a break in the weather, but instead it's been rain, rain, high winds, rain and more rain. A disappointing season for Disappointed Cat. He had expected better from us, and we did not deliver...

Still, although we may not get everything we want for Christmas, life has its good points. We're still here, for instance, and another year has nearly passed. Though sometimes disappointed, we are always thankful for our many blessings.

Happy holidays.

Old Tom

A break in the weather gives Old Tom an opportunity to climb up on an old farm truck and survey his territory. It's kind of like a lion on a big rock, except smaller and more mundane.

Two Cats on Abandoned Steps

Two cats sit on the now-overgrown steps of what used to be the rescue cat trailer. The weather is much cooler now but as long as it isn't raining they can tuck themselves a bit and keep warm in the semi-sun.

Bit of trivia: The tabby on the bottom is the momma cat seen in the top bar of this site. The brown tabby is one of those babies. So it's kind of like a blast from the distant past.

Feral Tabby Tom

Feral tabby tom cat, with interrupted bath
My photography interrupted a fur-cleaning session. This older tabby tom has been around the colonies a long time. Perhaps he's not so photogenic, but I thought he needed to be included in our online family. To me, he looks a little sad. At least he's well-fed.

In case you missed, it, The Feral Life 2016 Cat calendar is here!  We have two choices, as we have every year lately. The Lulu edition is the better deal - only because Zazzle's base printing costs are so high. Check them out...and give some as gifts! It helps feed the kitties. :)

Silver The Tabby

Silver the tabby cat photo
Silver, the tabby cat, we haven't had a photo of him for awhile, so here he is! Silver is the brother of muted tortie, Dora the Explorer, and a very quiet and somewhat shy guy. The only time I see him up close is at feeding time. He's one of the ones who will come right up to me to make sure he gets his share. But other than that, he's mostly never seen or heard.

Majestic Tabby Tux Tom

majestic tabby tux tom and possible demon cat, Winston Churchill
King of all he surveys, or so he'd like to believe, the majestic tabby tux tom indignantly poses for his official photo. For the most part, he keeps to himself but will deign to show up for things like... food. But not much else. He has royal cat stuff to which he must attend....

Something about his scowl makes me want to name him Winston Churchill.  Coincidentally, or not, I then remember that this is also the name of the demon cat in Stephen King's Pet Sematary.

Hmm....

Pretty Tuxedo Tabby

Not the best picture, but a beautiful cat! He's kind of sort of hiding and I just happened to be there to snap this pic.

I've been kind of busy trying to fix some plumbing and other household issues (which I'm not very good at) so I haven't been out there taking pictures like I should. Sorry. I've got a meditation retreat this weekend and then some time next week maybe... MAYBE ...things will get back to more or less normal.

Partially Hidden Tabitha

tabby cat hiding in grass photo
A little sun, a little tall grass; it's like the perfect world for a cat. Tabitha is enjoying an outdoor adventure, lurking in the tall grass like a lioness stalking prey. But it's all just for fun, really. A warm couch or a lap are much better.

Shy Old Tom Tabby

Old Tom Tabby face portrait
He tends to keep to himself, and to run away when there is any sudden movement. But he will come out to investigate if you're quiet and he thinks there might be food available. Old Tom Tabby is looking at me with that kind of suspicion, like, "Are you feeding or should I run away?"

Original Tabby Mom

original Tabby mom feral cat
She's been around for quite awhile, this tabby girl. Original Tabby mom is the mother cat that you see up there in the top bar with kittens. I just happened to get a photo of her again, and since last week we featured the white kitten on the upper right bar, I thought this was as good a time as any to show original tabby mom.:)

It's yet another blast from the past, so to speak. And speaking of which; you may not remember a post from a few years ago where I met a man (Caleb) traveling with his cat on a bicycle. That was a very interesting story! Well, day before yesterday, I finally heard from him. Apparently he found my Caleb and Marilyn post, and wanted to get in touch...which was great because I often wondered what happened to him.

So, Caleb tells me he's written a book about his travels with Marilyn the cat, and that sounded interesting. If you'd like to look into it further he has a web page for his book and a kickstarter campaign to fund it. I haven't seen the book yet but if it has a lot of Marilyn in it, it might be fun. Based on the video card for the book, it sounds like it might have a religious theme to it. Anyway, I hope it works out, and thank you for getting in touch, Caleb.

Peanut - Adoptable Tabby Kitten

Peanut, friendly adoptable tabby kitten
Peanut is an adorable little tabby kitten. She is about 8 months old, is spayed and has had shots. The cutest thing about Peanut is how she purrs so loudly when she sees you. She's a very happy girl.

Peanut should have a home! It's the only way to save her from the feral life. So if you can, please consider her...

Good Guy Tabby is Chill

Good Guy Tabby dude is chill
Good Guy Tabby dude is pretty chill, he really just wants to stay out of trouble and his eyes-half-closed look is saying, "I mean no harm and I'm not a threat to you."  We understand, Good Guy. You're just chillin and being a feral cat, like always.

Just A Tabby Tom

Just a tabby tom cat, tomcat
Just a tabby tom cat, thinking about stuff. He's kind of keeping an eye on me, too, but his mind might be elsewhere. I took this photo a couple of hours before the evening feeding, so maybe he's wondering if it's time for the next meal, yet. Pretty soon...

Yes, he's just a tabby tomcat, a little rough around the edges, and there are many more just like him. Just a tabby tom, with a life to live; with his own hopes and wishes and dreams; living his life as best he can. Just a tabby tom, nothing special... except that he is what he is; he is himself - a sentient being with a heart and soul.

Just a tabby tom. One small life, who happens to be a part of our feral family.
