Mostly White Cat

You don't see too many white or mostly-white cats in the feral colonies, for whatever reason, but here is one! Perhaps the most interesting thing about this shy guy is that you can see him as a kitten in the upper right of the top bar of this site.

Our Mostly White Feral Cat

This white tom has been around - it seems like forever. Well not really, but we can still see him as a kitten if you look up there to the top bar graphic, on the right. Yep, that's him! I don't remember when I took that picture, though; it was 2004 to 2006. Somewhere in there....

He has the very uncreative name of Whitey. He's not as white as he was when he was a a kitten, but he still stands out from the rest like a big snow cat.

Mostly-White Feral Cat

This mostly-white feral tom cat has been a staple of the feral colonies for awhile now. We see him from time to time but mostly he keeps his distance. I'm not sure of his age - he might be the little kitten featured in the banner bar of this site, in which case he was born circa 2003.

Although he's very shy, I'm sure he's glad to see me twice each day. For the food, that is. He's got his own cat business to tend to, otherwise.

Our Mostly White Feral Cat

Mostly white, but with a suitable amount of orange, Whitey is a long-time resident of the feral colony. Yes, I know his name is not clever - sometimes I just run out of ideas. This is a pocket camera photo again, I haven't felt up to dragging out the big equipment.

Whitey The Feral Cat

From my Flickr collection, it's Whitey the feral cat. We also saw him as the cat with his head turned away from the camera in the post, "Gang Of Three" recently. This time - for a change - he turned and looked right at me.. This tough-looking feral cat is pretty shy, really. He tries to avoid me as much as possible although he shows up for all feedings.

Adopt Bai, Kitten White and Bright

This is Bai ..his name means White as in white tiger. Bai is about 8 weeks old. He's learning new things everyday. One of the first things he learned was that people are nice, after all. He loves to be held and petted. He is very fond of his cat food and tries to hog it all... typical for a boy. He's learning some social graces, though.

I didn't even know for sure if he was a boy or girl when I rescued little Bai. He was maybe 5 weeks old and very sick. To his credit, he knew he wanted to be rescued. There were some long nights involved and some awful-tasting medicine, but we got through it. Now Bai is a bright, healthy, happy and very active medium-hair blue-eyed  fawn-tipped white kitty.

Bai is big-boned, in my opinion. I think he's going to grow up to be a very large white tomcat. But he needs a home of his own. Please help Bai find a loving and safe home.

Dubious Cat

I thought this white feral kitty had a priceless expression which deserved a good caption. But of course, being me, I couldn't come up with one. Oh well, the only word that came to mind was "dubious" ... but I take suggestions!

Two Mostly White Feral Cats

A couple of the less often photographed white feral cats: The frontmost one looks a bit like Fran, but isn't. They're mostly anonymous faces, except to me. Even if they don't have names, I know when they're there, and when they're gone.

Now that I think about it, they should have names. I just sometimes run out of ideas. I have a good visual memory, so I keep track of the cats that way. It's fine except when it comes to posting about them. Just know that the lack of a name is not the same as anonymous, because I know them.

Rubber Ducky, White Tom Cat

Rubber Duck appears to be somewhat taken aback by something White Tom said. Only they know what it was...

I uploaded this photo to Flickr (which is what it's linked to, above) ...Even though Flickr isn't as popular as it used to be, if you happen to have a Flickr account, I strongly encourage (request, beg?) you to go there and "Favorite" and comment on this pic. I'd like to see some of the kitties get noticed a little more. Yes, I'm asking for a favor. Sorry.

I think it's kind of cute and funny, in any case. Maybe it's just me. :)

Mostly White Older Feral Cat

Whitey has been with us a long time, really. He's kind of a fixture here and I'll miss him when he's gone. Since we lost Punk Tom and some others, he's probably one of the oldest feral cats here.

This phone photo of him attempting to get some sun makes him look a bit haggard, and I suppose he is - but then he's kind of always been like that. He's prone to upper respiratory infections and I often think how maybe I could help him if he'd just let me touch him. But that will not happen.

Probably I couldn't help, anyway. If he has one of the chronic diseases to which feral cats are prone, there really isn't anything that can be done. So food is about the best comfort Whitey is going to get. That's sad, but he likes to eat and we keep working to make that happen.

White, Blue-Eyed Feral Cat

A very pretty mostly white blue eyed feral cat eyes me with a degree of suspicion, but mostly looking for food. I could be wrong but I think this kitty is pictured as a kitten in our banner - above, right. It's that cute fuzzy face, all grown up!

This is an Instagram cameraphone picture, by the way. I haven't really taken the big camera out in a while because the weather is semi-crappy. There was a nice day yesterday but I had an out-of-town appointment that kept me away all day. Oh well.

Feral Cat Whitey Rests

Now a middle-aged feral cat, Whitey takes a well-deserved rest from his life of constant vigilance. He has more courage than I - he keeps going when I feel like giving up.

We still have the torties available for adoption. I hope someone takes them before it's too late. We lost several to diseases and predation. I'll deal with that at some point but right now I'm not up to talking about it. Suffice to say, this is why I feel like I can't do this anymore.

Wet Tomcat Whitey, Drying Off

After the big rain storm - and before the next one - feral tomcat Whitey, who always looks a bit rough anyway, is definitely looking scruffier than usual. However, he has found a strategic spot to aim his wet fur into the sun, to dry off.

Annoyed Tomcat

Whitey the feral tom has this look ..like, "get that camera out of my face!"  I don't know if he is really all that bothered by me or if he is more curious as to what I'm up to. Probably the later. At least he might be suspicious.

The mostly-white tom we call Whitey is still mostly white, and still with us!  I just happened to catch this shot when I was out doing something else.  He's a big but relatively docile guy.

Whitey Gets A Drink - Feral Cat Photo of the Day

The mostly white feral cat I call Whitey is back again. Although he's recovered from his severe respiratory illness of a couple of months ago, I suspect he still doesn't feel well. I'm not sure why and with feral cats you can't really do a lot for them unless you happen to live-trap them.

Whitey has always been too suspicious to step inside a trap. It's a good survival instinct for a feral, but it also means it's difficult to help him.

White Cat - Feral Cat Photo of the Day

One of two mostly-white feral cats in the colony, the other large tom is the one I call Whitey. This cat looks male too but I believe it is actually a female.
I could be wrong, of course. This cat is much more shy than Whitey. Sitings of Whitey used to be fairly rare until his bout with a respiratory illness. Since then, he has come to appreciate my friendship a little more: I can walk up to him without having him run away.

On the other hand, the kitty shown above keeps her (?) distance.

I was just thinking today how some of the more odd cats in the feral colony could be of interest to breeders trying to develop new and interesting variety of cats. Of course, many of them have been trapped and fixed at this point but there are still some free range oddities out there.

I also think about the fact that many of these cats would have been sweet pets had they been born into different circumstances. I like to imagine a world that isn't cold and indifferent to suffering - one where people actually live up to the ideals for which they provide so much lip service.

Of course, that is just an imaginary world.

Not Feeling So Well - Feral Cat Photo of the Day

I've been seeing more, lately, of the feral tom we call Whitey. Usually, he makes himself scarce when people are around. A noble beast, the proud feral tom is not feeling so well lately... I think he has a cold, poor guy. He's moving slowly and not looking so white.

Life is so hard for feral cats.

We've seen Whitey before, here - on a better day when he was still the tough guy.

I have made sure that he is still eating. If he doesn't get better soon I'll have to try to drop a net over him and find a vet who will look at him. He doesn't take well to people, which is too bad because he's a beautiful cat. But he's been wild all his life.

Rare Capture of White Feral Cat - Feral Cat Photo of the Day

Seldom seen, even at feedings but a member of the feral cat colony for a few years, this very rare white wild feral is one I've nicknamed Whitey for lack of a better name.


This feral is basically the only all-white or nearly all-white cat among the ferals. It's also very wild and although I know it eats with the other cats I sedom get a chance to see it. This is the only real portrait I've been able to capture - and even this time I couldn't get it to open it's eyes and and look at me.

Its rough coat is partly the fact that it has its winter attire on, and partly the fact that this particular cat looks very rough all the time. It also looks like it hasn't missed many meals! It's probably a good hunter; although I feed my feral cats VERY WELL for ferals, they don't get fat on it.

Cat Photo of the Day - Young Mosty White Kitty

Not part of the same group as the similar-looking little kitten shown a couple of posts back, this half grown white kitty is probably related, though. You can see in the eyes.... As always, when you are a feral cat, people are very scary.
