Curly, in thought, at the "Cat Condo"
The story begins in 2002. Original Gray Cat arrives and brings us kittens that year. She was not a feral. She was a cat that once had a home. This was really before I got involved in feral cat rescue but it was part of what led up to that.
Gray Cat had 5 kittens, 4 of which were boys. The lone girl was named Marcie, and she was lucky enough to be adopted.
We named the boys after Stooges characters; Mo, Shemp, Curly and Larry. Mo and Shemp were tuxedo cats, Larry was a tabby, while Curly was...well, Curly was Curly: In his kittenhood days he had unusually short fur, to the point where you could see his skin. He was practically naked
Time takes its toll. Over the years, Larry disappeared, Mo was killed on the road, as was mom Gray Cat later ...Shemp and Curly remained. And thankfully, they stayed friends and never fought.
Shemp and Curly used to show up together for meals at my home-built "Cat Condo" ..Shemp would eat on the top shelf, Curly just below him. But as regular readers may be aware, we recently lost Shemp.
That leaves only Curly -- the last brother standing.
Here we see Curly sitting on the lower deck of the very same Cat Condo he once shared with brother Shemp - the place where they ate together and hung-out together.
As I look at the picture above, it crossed my mind that Curly might be thinking about his brother... wondering where he might have gone.... when he might see his brother again...
Oh, that is so sad. Poor Curly. :(
ReplyDeletebeautiful portrait and a beautiful kitty... i'm sure he wonders where his siblings are but i think he also knows that you are looking out for him. he's got you and he's got regular meals. i'm sure he will be fine as long as you are around.
