Captured Kittens, Feral Photo of the Day

Captured ... Kittens

View On Black | View On Black, Large

Well it's all about trying to rescue kittens from the feral life, isn't it? That's what the title of this photo blog says....

These two little kittens have been captured and I'm not using "capture" as a synonym for taking a photograph. As I took this, they didn't yet know that all avenues of escape had been closed off.

I've already cleaned up the smaller ones eyes and they are starting to become people friendly. I don't know what I'm going to do, though - it's so hard to find homes anymore. That's the sad part: The intentions of this project began with the idea of at least giving feral kittens a chance at a new and better life and for a while it seemed like it was working to some degree.

With more and more kittens out there, though, there just aren't enough homes to go around. So while I'd like to keep telling myself that I'm giving them a chance at a better life, the truth is that it isn't much of a chance. It's just the best I can do.

 Remember this face.

  1. That's how my little guy looked with his eyes closed with goop. Ended up calling him Popeye. Good luck with these new babies....I don't know how people rescue and give up....I ended up keeping the 3 surviving babies I took in.

  2. Kittens are just the cutest things ever! I took in a feral kitty and am so glad it did--she's a wonderful cat and just turned 6 last week.

  5. Just a shame that so many unthinking people will pay a fortune for a pedigree cat when there are so many wonderful little souls out there who have not been bred for profit, need homes and would make fantastic pets. I personally love Siamese cats but I would rather have my 2 little former ferals than an expensive "accessory" cat.

  6. Oh my word. They are SO beautiful! I adore them. I think you are giving them a chance! And I think you are definitely making the world a more beautiful place. Very beautiful indeed! : )

  8. Poor little ones, hopefully with your nursing care, you can get them healthy and feeling good again. I know all the rescue groups I contacted when I was working with the 2 ferals in my area were all full and no kitties were being adopted quickly either. Luckily for MamaKatz's kittens, I work at a cat hospital and one of our clients does special needs rescue and through her, the kittens were adopted and one was adopted by a client so we will get to see him again from time to time.

And while I understand Jill B's comment to a point, if she read my blog and understood what my cats mean to me and how I am also there for their lifetime and they go to people who I interview in depth, after they have filled out my 5 page adoption application and in 21 years of breeding cats, I have only lost track of 2 cats and that was due to divorce and the people not caring enough to keep me updated with new contact info...she would realize not all breeders are bad and just in it for the $$

  9. Well, I think Jill's point was that we have this problem of so many kittens and not enough homes. We would all like every kitten to have a loving home, regardless of from whence it came. :)

  10. Yes Chriss, you're right. I don't think cat breeders are bad people, far from it, and lets face it if it wasn't for breeders there wouldn't be any "breed" cats left would there? No personal attack going on there Teri! Its a sensitive subject though, which you will of course understand from your work :-) If only there were more breeders who were as conscientious as yourself!

  12. Although you may not be able to place them, I do think they can tell that you care about them and that in itself is a gift.
